Uniting College for Leadership and Theology joins the University of Divinity

The University of Divinity is delighted to welcome Uniting College for Leadership and Theology as its newest College.

Located in Brooklyn Park, Adelaide, Uniting College for Leadership and Theology is the theological college of the South Australian Synod of the Uniting Church in Australia, equipping students for discipleship and ministry. Its mission is to educate courageous disciples and leaders for a healthy missional church.

Uniting College has a history of commitment to collaboration and ecumenical cooperation, a value that is also central to the mission of the University of Divinity. The College was a founding member of the Adelaide College of Divinity and through its former partnership with Flinders University has a track record of excellence in theological research.

The College’s location in Adelaide strengthens the opportunity for collaboration with current and future students and scholars based in South Australia from a wide range of churches able to attend events and seminars, and undertake study on campus.

Students will be able to study at the University of Divinity directly through Uniting College for Leadership and Theology from Semester 1, 2023.

Professor Peter Sherlock, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said:

Uniting College for Leadership and Theology has been a leader in Indigenous approaches to theology and an innovator in reimagining formation for ministry and leadership. As such they bring a welcome new dimension to the University’s education and research. We are honoured to deepen our partnership with the Uniting Church in Australia, and to draw on and renew the rich ecumenical legacy of the Adelaide College of Divinity as we serve the churches and community in South Australia.”

Reverend Professor Vicky Balabanski, Principal of the College, said:

“We are excited to join the University of Divinity, which not only has a long heritage of academic excellence in the field of theology, but understands the particular challenges and possibilities for study at all levels in ministry and leadership in the contemporary world. As a Collegiate University, the University of Divinity offers an ecumenical scaffold and community in which the Uniting College for Leadership and Theology can become all that our vision calls us to be.”

The admission of a new College to the University follows a process of rigorous assessment, during which the College must demonstrate its capacity to meet the academic, governance and financial obligations required to deliver higher education as a member of the University.
