Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Care Commencing at UCLT

Uniting College for Leadership and Theology (UCLT) are excited to announce we will begin delivering the Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Care course in second semester 2026. Responding to the needs of those working within various chaplaincy contexts, this course will offer foundational training in spiritual care providing opportunities for integration of theory and practice. It will equip students to work within multi-faith or non-faith settings to provide appropriate spiritual care. I will be co-ordinating the program along with an enthusiastic team of industry practitioners. Students will benefit from the wisdom of these skilled chaplains who collectively bring experience in spiritual care in hospitals, prisons, defence forces, aged care, mental health settings, and schools.

UCLT are grateful for the foundational work with stakeholders carried out by Associate Professor Robyn Wrigley-Carr from Whitley College. Robyn was able to benchmark the University’s Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Care against the Capability Frameworks of the Spiritual Health Association and Spiritual Care Australia. Robyn’s work has ensured that this award meets industry standards.

We will offer one unit each term allowing students to complete the Graduate Certificate in 18 months. An intensive in-person weekend will be held for each unit gathering students in Adelaide to develop a strong collegial and learning community.  Other contact time will be held online including peer group meetings to integrate learned theory within the students’ own contexts of spiritual care.

We are looking forward to launching this course at the upcoming Spiritual Care Australia Conference in Adelaide and invite expressions of interest and enrolments for semester two. Whether you are an experienced chaplain seeking further credentials to support your practice or wanting to upskill in this vital ministry the Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Care is for you.
