Senior Academic Women from Yarra Theological Union meet with the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne

Doctors Eleanor Flynn, Claire Renkin and Carmel Posa sgs, met with the Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, Peter Comensoli on the 30 November. As members of a group of women working for reform in the Catholic Church, their organisation, “Women’s Wisdom in the Church” requested a meeting to discuss how they might work with the Archdiocese to help implement the recommendations which have emerged from the 5th Plenary Council of the Catholic Church in Australia in July of this year.

Archbishop Peter welcomed the opportunity for conversation with Claire, Carmel and Eleanor and was supportive of their enthusiastic sense of mission, as well as their concerns and initiatives in relation to the future of the Church in Australia and the World. Of particular interest in this regard is the forthcoming visit of Nathalie Becquart XMCJ, appointed by Pope Francis to be the Undersecretary to the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops on Synodality.  Nathalie will be visiting Australia and giving a lecture here in Melbourne on the 31st of January at Newman College 2023.
