Public Lecture – Angela of Foligno

Steps of the Heart: Angela of Foligno and Affective Franciscan Spirituality

After raising a family, Angela of Foligno (c. 1248–1309) committed herself to a Franciscan way of life. She later recorded her mystical experiences in an account dictated to a Franciscan brother and known as The Book of Angela of Foligno. This lecture explores the emotional geography of the text, her attitude towards the body and reflection on the efficacy of the emotions within the context of mendicant spirituality and devotion.

Professor Piroska Nagy (UQAM) will give this lecture on Wednesday 5 November, 2014, beginning at 7.30pm.

Light refreshments will follow.

The venue is Yarra Theological Union Study Centre
98 Albion Rd, Box Hill

Entry is free, but RSVP essential: registrar@ytu.edu.au
