Mary Coloe appointed Professor Emerita of the University

Congratulations to Mary Coloe pbvm, appointed Professor Emerita of the University of Divinity by the University Council on 8 March 2023.

Professor Emerita Coloe is a Presentation Sister, who has taught at Yarra Theological Union since 2014, primarily in New Testament. She has numerous publications in the Gospel of John, her area of specialisation, which have contributed greatly to the field nationally and internationally. Mary is a gifted teacher and communicator and has made a significant contribution to the Biblical apostolate, particularly within the context of the Catholic church in Australia.

In announcing the appointment Professor Peter Sherlock, Vice-Chancellor, said:

Through this recognition, the University of Divinity honours the immense contribution Mary has made to the University over the past decade, and over very many years to theological education and research, and to the flourishing not only of our students but of the whole people of God.”

Professor Emerita Mary Coloe said:

I am delighted to accept this honour to be Professor Emerita of the University, and grateful to the Council for this invitation.”

To be appointed as Emeritus Professor of the University a person must have rendered sustained and exceptional service, through leadership or personal performance, which has added to the reputation of the University. Mary is the sixth person appointed Emeritus Professor.
