The Anderson PhD Scholarship

The John Wilson Anderson Trust was established in September 2024 to support theological and ministerial education at Pilgrim Theological College for the purpose of teaching and communicating evangelical theology. A portion of the Trust has been set aside to fund a PhD Research Fee Scholarship (RFS) through the University of Divinity. Evangelical theology is broadly construed and might include studies in evangelical history, spirituality, systematic theology, study of the bible, biblical reception history, mission and evangelism.

The Scholarship fully covers the recipient’s tuition fees for PhD study at the University of Divinity ($21,528 per full-time year at 2027 rates, or part-time equivalent). The Scholarship is available for the duration of the recipient’s candidature (ordinarily 3 years full-time or up to 6 years part time, with possibility for extension subject to application for extension in keeping with University policy).

Criteria

  1. The candidate must be accepted for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at the University of Divinity.
  2. The proposed PhD topic must relate broadly to evangelical theology or its application.
  3. The candidate must nominate Pilgrim Theological College as their home College.
  4. The candidate must have the capacity to make a contribution to the future of Australian theological scholarship and education.

How to apply

Applicants must complete a Doctor of Philosophy application form and submit this to the School of Graduate Research together with a statement of up to 500 words on your capacity to make a contribution to the future of Australian theological scholarship and education.
