Congratulations to alumnus Reverend Dr Nixon de Vera on the publication of God of the Gaps: Reimagining the Minor Prophets with Plato.

Is the God of the Hebrew Minor Prophets compatible with Plato’s God? To answer this concern, the concepts of justice, beauty, and truth are examined in light of the Old Testament alongside the dialogues, notably the Republic. Since Plato does not necessarily or directly talk about God, like in the Jewish (or Christian) tradition, the bridgeway in addressing the concern is to consider the ethical principles common to both worldviews. Thus, this is a philosophical-theological investigation of the richness of the formulations in favor of a universal standard for human behavior. The potential conflicts between the prophets and philosopher are reconciled, given the preeminence of the transcendental realm over the physical world. We can speak here of a “God of the gaps,” not to address the relationship between science and religion but to link the elements of Platonic philosophy with Christian thought derived from God’s self-revelation.
