“Not owning the earth, but walking around gently on it, as it.”—Fred Moten
Can theology and spirituality become adequate to our present moment of ecological crisis? This iteration of “Theology in Context” will take up the challenge of reimagining theology as a work of ecological imagination. It will trace the complicity of Christian theology in supplying key features of the colonial imaging of the earth as unimportant to our belonging to God, the most recent version of which is the current Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos funded space race to colonize the solar system. The unit will seek to think through alternate complicities of belonging to the earth and how theology can reinvent itself toward and for our fragile home.
This unit changes it focus or ‘case study’ each year and this year it focuses on ecotheology and classes commence in 2024.
