Reading Trauma in the Book of Jeremiah | Sep-Oct Intensive

The book of Jeremiah is a complex, pain-filled, and difficult text to read. Beginning with an understanding of the socio-political context which gave rise to the book, this unit will introduce students to trauma as effective lens through which to interpret prophetic literature. The impact of trauma on communal groups will be emphasised, and themes such as divine violence, forced deportation, diaspora and return, communal identity formation and communal memory will be explored.

This one-week intensive will be taught by Associate Professor Liz Boase, who has written extensively on trauma readings of biblical texts and was one of the editors of the foundational volume Bible Through the Lens of Trauma.
