Celebrate the finale of the Yarra Institute before the phoenix rises in December in the University of Divinity’s new

CENTRE FOR RESEARCH IN RELIGION & SOCIAL POLICY

It has always been the hope of the Yarra Institute that the MCD/University could establish a research institute formally promoting close engagement of the Colleges with contemporary social and cultural concerns. As a step towards such an arrangement, The Hon Brian Howe launched the Yarra Institute in 2009 with the support and encouragement of the Melbourne College of Divinity. While the Yarra Institute was within the umbrella of MCD, it was not an institute of the MCD.

With the coming of the University of Divinity, this has now changed, and it is very important that the University is taking full ownership of such a research organisation, now embodied in the new Centre for Research, with Dr Gordon Preece as the Interim Director.
The Yarra Institute welcomes the new Centre warmly, and congratulates the University on making this possible.

On behalf of the Board of the Yarra Institute
–Dr Stephen Ames (Chair) and Dr Bruce Duncan (Director)
