This scholarship is made possible by a generous bequest from The Reverend Dr Robert James Brown (1946-2013), a Uniting Church minister, and is established to assist a candidate from the Uniting Church tradition to undertake higher degree by research study at the University of Divinity.
The scholarship fully covers the recipient’s tuition fees for PhD study at the University of Divinity ($19,608 per full-time year at 2025 rates) and a stipend of $30,000 (full-time or $15,000 part-time) to cover study and living expense. The scholarship is available for a fixed period of up to three years (full-time).
Criteria
1. This scholarship is for a candidate who is either;
- A student or past student of Pilgrim Theological College,
- A student or past student of another theological college affiliated with the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA),
- A candidate for ministry in the UCA, or
- An ordained minister in the UCA.
2. The candidate must be accepted for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at the University of Divinity.
3. The candidate must nominate Pilgrim Theological College as their home College.
4. The candidate must have the capacity to make a contribution to theological scholarship and education in Australia and/or the Asia-Pacific region.
5. Preference may be given to candidates who are intending to study full-time.
How to apply
Applicants must complete a Doctor of Philosophy application form and submit this to the School of Graduate Research together with a statement of up to 500 words on their capacity to contribute to the future of theological scholarship and education in Australia and/or the Asia-Pacific region.
Candidates who have already commenced a PhD should submit their most recent research proposal together with a statement of up to 500 words on their capacity to contribute to the future of theological scholarship and education in Australia and/or the Asia-Pacific region.

Is this scholarship given by the same Rev Dr Bob Brown who was Minister at Deepdene (Paton Memorial) and then at Churchill (Gippsland) and retired to Box Hill?
I wasn’t aware that he had left this award.
