Congratulations to Reverend Dr Elizabeth Joyce Smith AM who has been recognised as a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Queen’s Birthday 2020 Honours. Dr Smith, an alumna of the University of Divinity, received the honour for significant service to the Anglican Church of Australia, and to liturgical scholarship.
About the award, Vice-Chancellor Peter Sherlock said:
Dr Smith’s contribution to liturgical theology and practice has been immense, nowhere more so than in her creativity as a writer of hymns and songs.”
Congratulations Elizabeth Smith on this latest honour, especially for the distinctive contribution you have made to the church’s singing the good news of the gospel in this strange land. You may remember me when you were at St John’s Bentleigh and I was at the Ormond Uniting Church.
You have long been an inspiration to me as I have sought to express my own commitment to the church, its gospel and its worship in writing new words for worship to familiar tunes. My book Songs in Season with that subtitle was published published by Coventry Press in Melbourne in August 2023. If you are inclined I would like to make contact with you.
