A Message from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor James McLaren

The University of Divinity community is deeply saddened and dismayed by the horrific events that took place at Bondi Beach on the evening of Sunday 14 December. We express our sorrow at the anguish, suffering, and loss of life inflicted on innocent people gathering to celebrate Chanukah. We extend our condolences to the victims, their families, and all those whose lives have been impacted.

We condemn any form of violence and affirm that every person should be safe to express their faith without fear of harm or persecution. This heinous act of terror and division that targeted the Jewish community must not be allowed to overshadow the hope that is celebrated through the festival of Chanukah.
