Bible Translation as an act of (in)justice

Announcing Pilgrim Theological College’s upcoming Lunchtime Seminar

by Rev Dr Dorothea Erbele-Küster, who will present a talk entitled:

Bible Translation as an act of (in)justice.

Rev Dr Erbele-Kuster is a Lecturer at the Theological Faculty of the University of Mainz, Germany, and has been involved in a translation project. Her field of interest as a Hebrew Bible scholar covers areas such as hermeneutics, ritual studies and the Psalms. Recently she has been working on the topic of Ethics of the Old Testament

Rev Dr Erbele-Kuster writes “Translation is fundamentally an act of sharing, of making information accessible to others. But translation can also be suppressive. To not translate texts of injustice would mean to annihilate them and to silence the injustice. By retelling the violence wo/men have undergone, their experiences are at least remembered…”
