Bart Bruehler appointed Professor of the University

Congratulations to Professor Bart Bruehler, appointed Professor of the University by the University Council on 8 May 2024. Professor Bruehler is Director of Biblical Studies at Uniting College for Leadership and Theology, and joined the University in 2024 after more than 10 years at Indiana Wesleyan University in the United States. In making the appointment, Council noted his outstanding contributions in the areas of Learning and Teaching and Leadership in the Academy.

The citation reads as follows:

“Reverend Professor Bart Bruehler’s career demonstrates a commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching and learning. Renowned for his rigorous instruction and innovative methodologies at the Indiana Wesleyan University in the USA, Professor Bruehler’s leadership led to significant enhancements to and integration of the curriculum in that context. Professor Bruehler brings advanced skills in curriculum development and assessment, which will be of significance to the University of Divinity’s process of course development.

Professor Bruehler’s scholarly work in biblical studies, notably socio-rhetorical approaches to the Gospel of Luke, have garnered widespread recognition. His research reflects a nuanced exploration of spatiality, sight, and embodied cognition in biblical texts, contributing to scholarly discourse within the field.

Professor Bruehler ‘s involvement in church and community initiatives demonstrates his diaconal commitment to service and advocacy. His contributions to inclusive ministry and leadership roles in non-profit organisations exemplify a holistic engagement with faith and community outreach.”
