Supporting the education and leadership of women in theology
This scholarship provides a Research Stipend Scholarship for up to three years, ($33,511) to study a PhD in one of the disciplines of Theology at the University of Divinity. The successful candidate will also receive a Research Fee Scholarship for up to four years ($19,608) which covers the cost of tuition fees.
Eligibility criteria
- The candidate must be a woman
- The candidate must be successfully admitted to commence a PhD in theology at the University of Divinity
- The candidate must have capacity to make a contribution to the future of Australian theological scholarship and education
The successful applicant must be enrolled to study in 2025.
Students who have already commenced a PhD at the University of Divinity and meet the other criteria are eligible to apply.

Complete a Doctor of Philosophy application form and submit this to the School of Graduate Research Office together with a statement of up to 500 words on your capacity to contribute to the future of Australian theological scholarship and education.

Short-listed applicants may be interviewed. The outcome of the award will be announced by 15 December 2024.

Janette Gray RSM Fund
The Janette Gray RSM Fund supports activities that promote the education and leadership of women in theology. This includes the annual Janette Gray Lecture and scholarships for women to pursue theological study.
Dr Janette Gray, a Sister of Mercy, was a scholar and gifted educator who recognised the potential for theological education to be transformative of people, societies and cultures.
Jan dedicated herself to creatively sharing the fruits of her own studies with diverse people in their academic, communal and work contexts. She had a particular passion for promoting the theological education of young women.
The School of Graduate Research (SGR) fosters a high-quality learning environment for higher degree by research students and their supervisors from pre-admission information through to post-candidature guidance and networking.
