Religion and the Common Good Project Policy Workshop #1: Postliberalism in Australia?

Postliberalism is at the fore of Common Good policy reform in the UK and US. Join the workshop with panelists: Judith Brett, Nick Dyrenfurth and Derek McDougall.

The Panel

  • Professor Derek McDougall, Chair (Univerity of Melbourne and Common Good Project)
  • Judith Brett (Emeritus Professor La Trobe University)
  • Dr Nick Dyrenfurth (Executive Director John Curtin Research Centre)

The subject

Amid the often populist and authoritarian political undertow created by the breaking wave of Neoliberalism, an often faith based, ‘postliberal’ politics has emerged in the UK and the US aimed at re-embedding markets in society. This panel will examine the movement and its potential for embedding the Common Good in Australia.

The Policy Workshops

The Common Good Project is multi-layered: podcasts, roundtables and policy workshops. The workshops will examine in depth the latest research informing the key themes arising in our inquiry into ‘Religion, the Common Good and Australian Social Policy’. Policy work is not the preserve of academics and all practitioners and interested citizens are encouraged to participate in our workshops across 2026.
