Please join us for the launch of Jeffrey Silcock’s new English translation of Oswald Bayer’s influential work, Promissio: The Reformational Turn in Luther’s Theology. The event will include an introduction by Matthew Bishop, Lecturer at Australian Lutheran College, and translator Jeffrey Silcock, ALC Emeritus Lecturer, will also share a few reflections.

In Promissio, Bayer traces Luther’s early writings to highlight the reformational breakthrough: the gospel as God’s effective promise, a present gift that accomplishes what it declares and grounds justification. This new and expanded English edition, rendered with great care by Jeffrey Silcock, makes Bayer’s often complex German accessible to a wider audience of English-speaking students and scholars.
