Faith in Freedom and Democracy

Professor Tim Stacey, Endowed Professor, Liberal Religion and Humanism, Univ. of Humanistic Studies, Utrecht, The Netherlands.  Author of Saving Liberalism from Itself: The Spirit of Political Participation (2022).

Professor Stacey’s work is primarily concerned with restoring faith in freedom and democracy. He has written extensively on the connection between postliberal political theology and emergent sources of solidarity among those taking action on social justice and the environment. Amidst ongoing threats to freedom and democracy, he places theology into dialogue with sociology and anthropology to argue that we must see politics as an act of collective faith that is carefully and repeatedly reenacted. He will discuss how faith is upheld, altered, and undermined.
