Launch of the St Sarapion Society of Liturgy (Australia)

26 February 2026

St Athanasius College (SAC) together with St Cyril’s Coptic Orthodox Theological College (SCC) are pleased to announce the formal launch of the St Sarapion Society of Liturgy in Australia, a new scholarly and ecclesial initiative dedicated to the study, dialogue, and collaboration of ancient Christian liturgical traditions.

The Society is a collaborative venture between St Athanasius College (University of Divinity) and St Cyril’s College (Australian University College of Divinity). It aims to promote academic research and attention to the living experience of the ancient liturgical Church.

The Society is devoted to exploring the richness of Christian worship in its historical development, theological life, and contemporary practice. Particular emphasis is placed on the Egyptian liturgical heritage, especially within the broader context of dialogue with other Eastern and Western liturgical traditions. Through this comparative and interdisciplinary approach, the Society seeks to deepen understanding of how liturgy shapes theology, spirituality, and ecclesial identity.

To this end, it will provide a platform for scholarly publication, academic collaboration, and intellectual dialogue. It will also facilitate conferences, workshops, and public lectures that bring together scholars, clergy, and students committed to exploring the depth and beauty of the Church’s liturgical life.

Further details regarding upcoming events, and opportunities for participation can be viewed via: https://www.stsarapion.com/

We warmly invite all who share an interest in liturgical studies to engage with and support this initiative.

Fr Dr Shenouda Boutros, Principal of SAC
Fr Dr Daniel Fanous, Principal of SCC
Fr James Nessim, Society Director
Mina H. Samy, Society Director
