Australian Lutheran College (ALC) is seeking to employ a suitably qualified and experienced Director of Library Services for an initial period of two years, commencing as soon as practicable.
The ALC library is a specialist theological collection which exists to serve the lifelong learning and research needs of the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand and its regional and global partners. As the largest collection of Lutheran material in the southern hemisphere, it also makes an important contribution to the scholarly collection of the University of Divinity. The Director of Library services will provide significant strategic leadership, and hands on operational management. They will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships and growing the library user base through community engagement leading to innovation.
During the last decade, ALC has transitioned from a teaching model where students attended class on a physical campus which included the library, to teaching which is fully online. Students are now located across Australia and around the world, while the library is located in premises in the Adelaide CBD. The Director of Library Services will ensure the continuing provision of high-quality library services to students and other library members through further development of the digital and print-based services, while also providing astute, visionary strategic advice and activity which assists the ALC leadership team and board to determine the future direction of the library
The library operates Tuesday- Friday. The precise time fraction and working hours are negotiable, but the position is expected to be 0.6-0.8 FTE. It may be classified as a level HEW 7 position as described in the Higher Education Industry-General Staff-Award 2020 for a candidate with strategic as well as operational capacity.
