Are you a strategic and theologically grounded Christian leader with a heart for mission in an increasingly secular and techno-scientific culture?
We are seeking a full-time Associate Director, based in Melbourne, who will report to and work closely with the Executive Director in delivering ISCAST’s strategic goals and deepening its impact across Australia.
The salary will reflect the seniority of the role and align with comparable not-for-profit leadership positions.

About ISCAST
ISCAST – Christianity and Science in Conversation (formally, the Institute for the Study of Christianity in an Age of Science and Technology) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to promoting informed and constructive conversations between science, technology, and the Christian faith. We are a diverse community consisting of scholars—including scientists and theologians—technologists, engineers, students, lay people, pastors, communicators, educators, and others. We value science because it reveals truth about God’s creation, assists believers to fulfil God’s purposes, and contributes to the common good. And we are passionate about equipping the church and the broader community to engage faithfully with the challenges and opportunities of scientific and technological change.
Our work includes public events and conferences (face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid), educational programs, media and publishing (including the peer-reviewed ISCAST journal), and a ministry to young people, especially through growing schools engagement, which addresses the perceived conflict between science and faith.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to strategic planning and governance
- Help to lead and mentor a small, geographically distributed staff team
- Expand ISCAST’s reach in schools, universities, churches, and the public square
- Collaborate on funding, communications, and stakeholder engagement
- Represent ISCAST in public and church settings
About You:
The role is flexible and can be shaped to suit the background and strengths of the successful candidate. Whether you come from scientific research, church or parachurch leadership, academia, school leadership, industry, or business, we are open to diverse pathways into this position. A detailed job description will be developed in consultation with the appointed candidate to align their skills and experience with ISCAST’s strategic priorities and current staff team. However, we are looking for a dynamic, thoughtful, and collaborative leader who brings:
- A deep commitment to orthodox, credal Christianity, and a desire to engage culture theologically
- A respect for and affirmation of mainstream science as a way of approaching God’s creation
- Strategic leadership experience in a church, parachurch, academic, business, or not-for-profit context
- A strong background in one or both of theology and science
- A demonstrated ability to build and manage teams and projects with an eye for detail, budget, and outcomes
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative, humble leadership style

If this opportunity excites you, we encourage you to explore the main ISCAST website and the ISCAST journal site, and to contact us for more information or to express your interest. Please contact Chris Mulherin at chrismulherin@iscast.org or 0431330380.
ISCAST is a network of people, from students to distinguished academics, exploring the interface of the sciences, technology, and Christianity. We are committed to Jesus Christ and we are convinced that Christian faith has much to say in engagement with the sciences. We are concerned that so many people, both outside and some within the Christian church, think that there is a destructive conflict between faith and science.
