Become a student member of the Academic Board

The University’s Academic Board provides for the election of a current coursework student and a current Higher Degree by Research student as members of the Academic Board, elected for a term of two years.

Andy Bennett (coursework) and Brad Watson (HDR) are the current student members, and their terms conclude on 31 December 2024.

Nominations are now open to fill these two vacancies, for a term of two years from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026. All currently enrolled students are eligible to stand for election, but as the enrolment of the elected students need to remain current for the full term of their appointment, it is recommended that students only nominate for the positions if they expect to remain enrolled for the duration of this period. The elected students are expected to attend six meetings of the Academic Board per calendar year, which are generally held via videoconference.

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the academic decision-making of the University and to gain experience of University governance. The Academic Board has oversight of the University’s academic programs and policies, and its business includes the development and review of courses.

Nominations open today, Wednesday 30 October and close at 5pm on Monday 11 November 2024.

Candidates may nominate themselves for election, or nominate another student, who will be given the opportunity to either accept or decline the nomination.
