Jesus Christ at the Margins

What do early teachers of the Christian tradition say about social margins? Did they find any connection between Jesus Christ and those at the margins?

This unit aims to critically examine Jesus Christ’s interactions with individuals deemed as social outcasts. It will survey biblical and patristic works to determine how contemporary theologians have appropriated ‘Jesus Christ at the margins’ to articulate a contextual Christology. By tracing this perspective from the Gospels, ante-Nicaean, post-Nicaean, and modern teachers, this unit seeks to understand the missional significance of conceiving Christology through the lives of vulnerable communities.
