SUMMARY:Felix Arnott Lecture with The Reverend Dr Elizabeth J Smith AM
DESCRIPTION:In our own accent: Australian English in worship and mission\nWhat is our Australian Anglican liturgical accent? How has it evolved? How does it relate to the versions of Australian English that are spoken outside our church buildings? How well does our liturgical language equip us\, not only to pray together\, but also to talk about the Good News and the things of the Spirit with those who don’t speak our insider dialect? And if our liturgical language needs to keep evolving\, what might it start to sound like? \nJoin us for refreshments from 5:30 PM\, followed by the lecture commencing at 6:00 PM. Attendance is available both in person and online\, making it easy for you to be part of this engaging event wherever you are. \nStay tuned for the livestream link or registration details\, and we look forward to welcoming you for an evening of thought-provoking discussion and community connection. \nThe Reverend Dr Elizabeth J Smith AM\nThe Reverend Dr Elizabeth J Smith AM has been a member of the General Synod Liturgy Commission since 1997. Ordained deacon in 1987 and priest in 1993\, Elizabeth has served as parish priest in the suburbs of the Diocese of Melbourne and Mission Priest in the regional mining town of Kalgoorlie in the Diocese of Perth. From 2008 to 2015 she was Mission Development Coordinator for the Diocese of Perth\, providing resources and training for lay people and clergy in parishes\, chaplaincies\, school and agencies. Elizabeth is known for her singable\, inclusive-language hymn texts. She has also written many fresh\, accessible\, contextually-appropriate prayer texts for Anglicans. She now travels and teaches\, sharing skills for creating and using those “other suitable words” that A Prayer Book for Australia encourages Anglicans to develop for lively liturgy in your context. \nTime and Date\n5.30 pm – 8.30pm AEST\, 9 June 2026 \nFormat and Location\nHybrid\, join us in person at St Francis College\, 233 Milton Road\, Milton QLD 4066  or online via zoom (register below). \nRegister\nTalitha FraserTalitha Fraser is the Administration Officer at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.

SUMMARY:Imagine Something Else: Communities\, Creativity\, Resistance
DESCRIPTION:Save the date\nThe 2026 ACFT Conference program includes The Annual Janette Gray RSM Lecture delivered by Dr Mary Kate Holman. A celebration of the first decade of ACFT\, and launch of the 2027 ACFT Art Exhibition based on the theme of this years’ conference\, “Imagine Something Else: Communities\, Creativity\, Resistance. \nDr Mary Kate Holman is a scholar of contemporary Catholic theology. She holds a BA from Georgetown University\, an MTS from Boston College’s School of Theology and Ministry\, and a PhD from Fordham University. Prior to her arrival at Fairfield\, Dr. Holman was Assistant Professor of Theology at Benedictine University in the suburbs of Chicago. Dr. Holman’s teaching interests include Feminist Theology\, Ignatian Spirituality\, Vatican II\, and Spirituality & Social Justice. Her research interests encompass Ecclesiology\, Nouvelle Théologie\, Marie-Dominique Chenu\, Vatican II\, and Feminist Theology. \nDr. Holman will publish Marie-Dominique Chenu and the Signs of the Times through University of Notre Dame Press in 2025. She published an English translation of Chenu’s Saulchoir: A School of Theology with Joseph Komonchak in 2023. Dr. Holman’s writing has appeared in the Journal of Jesuit Higher Education\, Theological Studies\, and Commonweal. \nIn a time marked by intersecting crises\, narratives of disaster and nevertheless deep possibilities\, we invite fresh perspectives to enact and sustain hope and courage. \nWhere and why does hope flourish? What sustains commitment and resistance in times of trial? What space can be made for dissonance and dissent? How do people engage and encourage others of like mind and heart? What resources can we find in our contexts and traditions? How do communities cultivate creative practices of transformation? To what are we called? \nPlease see our call for abstracts and save the date. More details to follow. \nTalitha FraserTalitha Fraser is the Administration Officer at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
