Double launch of “God in the Landscape” by Kerrie Handasyde and “Reading with Earth” by Anne Elvey

Tuesday, 6 December, 5:30 pm7:00 pm AEDT

You are warmly invited to join us for an in-person book launch on Tuesday 6 December 2022, 5.30pm–7.00pm at Yuma, Centre for Theology and Ministry, 29 College Crescent, Parkville, 3052, for a double book launch.

Professor Katharine Massam will launch God in the Landscape: Studies in the Literary History of Australian Protestant Dissent by Dr Kerrie Handasyde.

God in the Landscape draws the links between landscape, literature, and spirituality with imagination and insight and is an important contribution to the historical study of religion and the environment.

‘Kerrie Handasyde’s historical work is fascinating in its focus on fiction, poetry, novels, travel writing and dramatic performance, rather than denominational histories, to get inside the lived experience of Protestant Dissent.’ – Professor Glen O’Brien, Eva Burrows College, University of Divinity

‘Kerrie Handasyde has made a distinctive contribution to Australian religious and literary historiography.’ – Reverend Dr Max Vodola, Catholic Theological College, University of Divinity

Professor Vicky Balabanski will launch Reading with Earth: Contributions of the New Materialism to an Ecological Feminist Hermeneutics by Dr Anne Elvey

‘Elvey combines analysis with creativity, complexities with poetry, nuance with passion. This work challenges, inspires and exhorts us to change and to imagine the future of our world differently.’ – Dr Elizabeth Dowling, Biblical Scholar, Australia

‘This work builds upon the ecological hermeneutic of the Earth Bible project, while drawing also from feminist theological readings, the new materialism, Indigenous scholarship and activism, and poetry, all in the service of reading Luke “with the Earth.” This is a sophisticated, passionate, and timely reading. The Earth cries out, and Elvey enables us to hear these cries.’
Professor Shelly Matthews, Brite Divinity School, USA

For catering purposes, please RSVP by Thursday 1 December 2022, to Dr Kerrie Handasyde kerrie.handasyde@pilgrim.edu.au
