CTC, MCD, and the transformation of Australian theological education c.1964-1976

Friday, 10 March, 1:00 pm2:00 pm AEDT

All University staff, researchers, and postgraduate students are welcome to attend this lunch time seminar from Catholic Theological College.

Professor Peter Sherlock, Vice Chancellor of the University of Divinity, will deliver a lecture, “CTC, MCD, and the transformation of Australian theological education c.1964-1976”.

This paper explores the transformation of Australian theological education in the late 1960s and early 1970s, using the lens of three changes made to the Melbourne College of Divinity Act in 1972. These include the ecumenical expansion of theological education, the introduction of an undergraduate curriculum, and the creation of the collegiate system. The paper invites reflection on how theologians and theological institutions engaged with the reshaping of higher education in Australia and the movement of the Spirit in the churches exemplified by the Second Vatican Council, and how this might inform our present moment as we navigate another period of critical change.

The seminar will take place onsite at CTC in the Treacy Boardroom. The Zoom meeting information is below if you cannot attend in person.
